Indes nutzt Daryl die Zweifel seiner Ex-Freundin, um ihr die Wahrheit zu gestehen und sie zur Flucht zu überreden. The latest episode of The Walking Dead set into motion a plan to take Meridian back from the Reapers. That should, hopefully, allow two of the ongoing storylines to intersect, given that Daryl is currently there playing double-agent. There was also more development for the Commonwealth, including a pretty clear class divide and a harsh, nebulous judicial system, and while we didn’t check in on Alexandria, the prospect of its imminent collapse seems to be on everyone’s minds. The Walking Dead season 11, episode 8, “For Blood”, promises to bring all of this to some kind of logical breakpoint for the first — of a planned three — season finale. Here’s how things stand Things in the Commonwealth aren’t looking good. Eugene, Ezekiel, Princess, and Stephanie are all tasked with clearing walkers out of buildings that have been marked for future expansion, and they have no idea how long the sentence will last, while Yumiko is given a power position as legal representative to Governor Pamela Milton and her Cabinet. Tired of the rudeness of a particularly unpleasant rich man and his girlfriend, Eugene punches him in the face, only to be told after the fact that he was Milton’s son. He’s looking at life in prison if he doesn’t divulge the coordinates of Alexandria. Maggie decides to use the tactics of the Whisperers to lead a horde to Meridian in order to free it from Reaper occupation, but she needs Negan’s help to do that, and they continue not to get on. After a tense, frank conversation about whether or not Negan would do things differently if he had the chance, they square their own differences for long enough to accumulate a giant horde and begin the journey to Meridian. Daryl and Leah, under Pope’s instructions, head out to try and find Pope’s surviving enemies. Eventually, they stumble on a man whose wife is dying, and mercy kill her before being recalled back to Meridian since something is obviously afoot. Predictions based on the previous episode With this being the first mid-season finale, we can expect some big developments. Some predictions Maggie, Negan, and co., under the guise of the herd, will attack Meridian. One assumes that the attack won’t be entirely successful, especially since the place is so well guarded and fortified, but it’ll probably do enough damage to cause some chaos. In the aftermath of the attack, Pope is going to want to know who’s responsible, which will likely put Daryl in an even more difficult position. Since we got plenty of Commonwealth stuff in the latest episode, it seems likely that it’ll be dropped in favor of more focus on Alexandria. With the place already on its last legs, the chances of this being a happy-go-lucky plot are slim. It makes sense at this point, I think, to begin moving the Alexandria and Commonwealth plots closer together. Are we due a major character death?

Walkers from all around are attracted to this spinning Catherine wheel and swarm Alexandria. Huddled together in Aaron’s house, the survivors hatch a plan. Carol, Kelly and Connie will repair the walls, Aaron and Magna head to put out the windmill fire while the rest remain to protect their people. We follow the action inside the house, where Judith sits with Gracie and Virgil, the latter still recovering from his wounds. They speak about Michonne and her mother’s love for Judith, which gives her hope and strength. She commits to protecting the other kids, especially Gracie who is adamant she'll be strong like the walkers creep further in, reaching the house, wherein Rosita takes her moment to shine. She goes out in the heavy rain to clear the walkers from the porch and stem the tide of bodies. Despite this, their numbers swell, and the door can’t hold out much longer. Everyone gathers upstairs, until only Lydia is left to hold the door shut. Judith realizes Gracie is unaccounted for and finds her in the basement trying to grab a weapon to help. As the floor floods, Judith grabs her and they try to leave, but the walkers are already inside the house. The girls can only lock themselves in the in Meridian, the Reapers spot horde outside of their compound, unaware Maggie’s group are among it, but noticing the strange patterns they walk in and how they keep a distance from the walls. Wells is sent out to coax the rotters’ away, but the masked Negan and Maggie surprise him, stabbing him until the walkers consume him. Getting no response from Wells' walkie-talkie, Pope believes this proves Maggie is out there. Leah is horrified that he sent Wells out to die to prove his theory, but Pope rationalizes that they are at war and sometimes sacrifices need to be popeDaryl, noticing his people among the horde, takes the chance to walk around the compound, wherein he becomes a saboteur behind enemy lines. He covertly takes out a lone Reaper, opens a gate and misdirects their efforts, all while trying to open Leah’s eyes to Pope’s the Reaper’s explosives are unable to scatter the walkers, a secret weapon is deployed. This is a hwacha an old Korean artillery piece that fires hundreds of rockets. Directed at the encroaching horde, Daryl finally tells Leah the truth, that they must stop the hwacha as he needs to protect Maggie’s people, his people, hidden among the walkers. He also wants her to come with him. Unsure of what to do, Leah remains lost in thought as Pope directs the this, Maggie and Gabriel have snuck into the compound thanks to Daryl and split up. Gabriel acquires a sniper rifle to cover Maggie, while she hotwires a truck and uses it to smash through the main gate. With their main defense breached, the compound swells with walkers and the Reapers are in the streets to take them out. Pope orders the hwacha to be fired inside the compound, with Leah warning him that will kill their own people. He declares himself the voice of God and that he is not to be questioned he’s Pope, get it?. She exchanges a look with Daryl who draws his weapons. Leah kills Pope while Daryl takes out the hwacha the many deaths of her people caused by Daryl and her friends, Leah refuses to go with Daryl and radios in that it was he who killed Pope. He asks why, and she says the same reason he’s doing what he’s doing. To protect her family. Daryl escapes, and Leah, now as their de facto leader, directs the Reapers to fall back and fires the hwacha towards Maggie and Negan, who stare up as the rockets fly. Cut. The episode A of season 11 concludes. An episode of high energy and big spectacles amid battles against the living and the dead, this mid-season finale offers no moment to catch your breath. Whether it's in the tension of Pope’s increasing violent paranoia, Leah’s internal conflict over Daryl or worrying a beloved favorite will be bitten in Alexandria, this was a relentless way to see out the season's first run. But with both cliffhangers landing mid-action, it feels terribly contrived. Little payoff seems to be this season’s theme. Negan gets Maggie to walk like a Whisperer. TWD_905_GP_0618_0158_RT Maggie and Pope have a few things in common They both want to protect what their people have; they're both willing to do whatever is necessary to make that happen, and they're both bloodthirsty for some vengeance — even if it's not totally clear why they are fighting each other. We know the Reapers killed everyone in Meridian, but the explanations aren't lining up just yet as to why this pious group of mercenaries would do that beyond just them all being insane, which most of them don't seem to be. For Maggie, this all means taking some notes from Alpha and the Whisperers. She wants to make the Reapers hurt. More than that, she wants to wash over them the way they did to Meridian. And she's going to try to do that with some walkers. A lot of 'em. Taking some tips from Negan about how to be a good Whisperer, she practices wearing a walker face mask and herding as many of the dead as she can into a pen while Gabriel scouts out the Reapers' home base. He returns and reports back to Maggie that "it's still there," which makes all of this more suspicious. What exactly is she looking for that's apparently in the Reapers' possession? Are the Reapers currently occupying what used to be Meridian? Is that what he meant by "it"? I still think there's something missing from this puzzle and that Maggie — who's now literally becoming an Alpha, one of the worst people they've come across — might have done something to attract Pope's ire. The episode leaves us with an image of a masked Maggie marching at the helm of her own horde. At first, he threatens to abandon Maggie's suicide mission to reach Meridian, but he strikes a deal with her if he stays and fights with them, that makes them even. She shakes his hand, but it remains unclear if she'll actually uphold that promise. I mean, the episode is titled "Promises Broken," so... the jury's still out. Meanwhile, Daryl sees that the good person he once saw in Leah is still alive in her. Pope is furious that his scouts have not found Maggie's group yet, so he sends Daryl and Leah out together. They find a frightened man cowering in the bushes. He leads them back to his hideout, where his young son and dying wife are resting. Pope gave Leah orders to kill them over the radio, but she can't do it. She tells the father to take the boy, run away from the area, and never return. The woman sees this as a sign from God. They never would've left her while she was still alive but it was dangerous for them to stay. Leah can't even bring herself to kill this person, so Daryl does it for her. It's a moment that makes what many of the characters have been talking about even messier what would they do to keep their people safe? Maggie and Pope seem to have no limits to that question. Leah, too, had defended the Reapers' past actions with Daryl while scouting together before making this act of mercy. It's the mindset that people will come to take what they have so they have to kill everyone before they get the chance. Maggie and Negan had a conversation comparing and contrasting both of their actions Negan as leader of the Saviors and Maggie as head of their group. Negan points out the murdered Saviors who had families. "Where'd Aaron get Gracie?" Knowing everything that transpired after the fact, he admits if he could redo the whole situation he would've killed all of them instead of just Glenn and Abraham. This appalls Maggie, but he says for their relationship to work, they need to be honest with each other. She doesn't respond, which is another hint that she's not being upfront about everything. Watch this theory end up being totally wrong, but the factors surrounding why Maggie is so merciless these days and why the Reapers do what they do doesn't make sense to me. Maybe only slightly, but the hole in which they've found themselves continues to get deeper and deeper. As punishment for breaking Commonwealth laws, Eugene, Stephanie, Princess, and Ezekiel were tasked with hard labor. For days, they've been clearing out walkers from buildings for future development, while Yumiko is being groomed to become legal counsel for Ms. Pamela Milton and her cabinet. Mr. Hornsby is trying to gain her favor by helping her friends — and her brother, who was abruptly snatched off the streets without an explanation — in exchange for a "favor" he will cash in at a later time. But it's clear there's only so much he can or will do. Eugene and Stephanie get different assignments from Hornsby and are en route when they see walkers heading towards a preppy couple making out on a picnic blanket. They make quick work of the dead, but the guy chastises them for interrupting their date. Stephanie is forced to step in and save them again when another walker sneaks up behind the girl, but the guy again is dismayed for her getting blood on his date's sweater. So, Eugene punches him in the face. Yumiko's meeting with Pamela is even canceled last minute because mommy has to go save her kid from the bad man who attacked him — the narrative Sebastian fabricated for himself. So, Eugene is thrown in jail. Hornsby now says the price for his freedom is a lot higher and manages to get Eugene to reveal Alexandria's location. Hopefully, Yumiko can work some lawyer magic.
